Polo 6C retrofit parking sensors

Post by F17ANT »

Hi everyone

Is there any way/guide of retrofitting parking sensors (really just want the rear) to make it look like stock. I don't like the generic ones unless they can be made to look stock.

And you will need a special tool to cut the holes in the bumper. Can be found on eBay...

I agree with using the genuine parts, also buying the correct tool to punch and roll the edges of the holes, which should be already marked with a X on the inner face of the bumpers - that comes from retro fitting front parking sensors and so full OPS to my 2011 Audi S4, I bought used parts via email and the cable forms from Kufatec, the tool I bought was a kit and a very expensive one at that as it included clamps to hold the sensor brackets while bonding them to the bumper - I did not use double sided tape, I used a structural adhesive form Araldite as I did not want these brackets coming loose any time in the future.

One other option, if it is only the "no retro" look that you are trying to avoid and are not too bothered with getting OPS, then buying the kit that VW will sell for retro fitting that used to be marketed/made by Cobra and is now marketed as ??? (an old cellnet provider name!), will be okay as their premium version looks identical to OEM, but will not interface with the car's infotainment system, so only come with a buzzer.

Edit:- go for broke and do retro fit the full OPS front and rear, it will be expensive, but I like it as my wife's car (Polo) has full OPS.

You have a few options:

1.) you could buy a 2nd hand kit of the sensors and loom and then fit it yourself but it requires drilling the holes in the correct positions (I know I wouldn't fancy this!),

2.) you could buy a new kit and fit it yourself,

3.) you could get a company to supply and fit them (there's other place too apart from this place).

4.) you could buy another bumper with it already installed-even better if you can find a bumper in the same colour as then it will not need respraying. Of course if you are thinking of changing the bumpers anyway, this would be an ideal to do it all.

If the inside of the bumper has markings this is even more good news saves marking up with tape double and triple checking before cutting. 😊

Thanks for your reply mate I think I'm going with option 2 as 1 of the other members sent a link of everything I need and as the bumper has the markings on the inside shouldn't be hard at all. I might keep an eye on ebay for a second hand genuine kit but if not will go for a new 1.

Appreciate everyones help :)
