see if you lot can figure this out??

Post by niks »

hey guys amybe you lot can make sense of this:

insurance has come to the end for ny polo 1.4 8v so i went to renew my policy while we were going through the details i found they insured me on the 75bhp model rather than the 60 bhp model thinking s**t!!! I told them but to my surprise the premium went up!!!

WHAT THE F**K???

so i was thinking did the mk5 come in two specs for the 8v a 60 bhp and a 75 bhp and can i convert mine to 75bhp???

I dont think you can convert them no...... also they didnt make a 8v 75hp.

As far as the insurance goes, insurance companies work out premiums in usually very complicated ways and there are many deals and sneaky ways that they make some premiums cheaper than others to compete with other companies etc. Its not just done purely on engine size/power etc- also you have to take into account the other characteristics of the car- any problems that VW had with them and security/ ease of being stolen- immobilisers/alarms etc.

This means that insurance companies often seem totally illogical due to the stupidly detailed ways that they work out their premiums- I was once asked for £4000 third party on an old fiesta 1.1 when I was 17.

Right, so what to do- almost all insurance companies will match another ones quote so just get a good quote after a saturday ringing round and say if they dont match it then you'll change- believe me they wont want to loose the buisness. Try and match the companies profile to who you are too- age, points on liscence etc. as tescos, AA etc are crap at insuring young drivers with decent modded cars for example as their just not used to it.

Lastly if you cant afford it, put the main driver of the car as you but put a woman as a named driver on your policy- the risks go down, hence the policy is cheaper- I know its mad but thats insurance companies for you!!

Good luck hope this helps
