VW polo 1.4tdi bluemotion engine noise when starting idle

Hi!

I recently bought a polo 1.4tdi bluemotion 65 plate, and have noticed a strange sound from the engine bay when I start the car.

Its kind of a clunking choking sound, I've attached a link to a video I've taken of it on YouTube.

It only happens when the car is cold, as soon as I drive it the sound goes away and it runs lovely!

Any ideas what this could be? It's a worrying sound and if it's a problem I want to get it sorted out asap before it turns into something worse!

Update, noise seems to stop as soon as I press the clutch

If the noise stops when you push the clutch the problem is a bearing inside the gearbox.

Sounds like a gearbox out job. My understanding is the clutch pressure release bearing is on the way out as noisy when clutch depressed, so this could point to the output shaft bearing as you're removing load.

Exactly if you are ander warranty fix it! Otherwise you have to pay..
