Led fog lights

Post by proalves »

I recently bought this OSRAM H8 LEDriving Fog Lamp kit to replace the original bulbs that are quite at odds with the car equipped with LED headlights.

To my disappointment they give error appearing in Active Info Display. :(

Already someone has changed the fog lamps to LEDs or there will be solution to eliminate the error.

Any information to solve the problem is welcome. :D

I saw these for sale on a few websites. All the websites I saw warned of them prompting canbus errors when fitted.

Also, they're not ECE approved, which means they're not road legal in Europe.

Warm yellow halogen light cuts through fog better than than cool white light from LEDs. I'd personally leave them as stock.

The dealer who sold the kit warned me that it could give canbus error when fitted, for this reason I can return them.

The purchase was made at a physical store near my house, and I'm aware that the Warm yellow halogen light cuts through fog better, but the exchange would only be aesthetic and I can guarantee that they look really good.

Here in Portugal it's illegal to drive with the fog lights on when there is no fog, but as they work as a "cornering light" I don't know if this is the English term, the light of the LEDs would be better aesthetically and it's only for this reason that would be the exchange.

In the meantime I put back the original lamps, until I found another solution...

For fog lights? Are they strong enough?

^ They're 21W each. For household bulb LEDs, about 1/11 of the output of an incandescent bulb (Halogen etc.) is equivalent in light output for LED e.g. 4.5W LED replaces 50W Halogen. The ratio might be a little lower in automotive lights, but even if it's 1/7, those 21W bulbs are putting out the halogen equivalent of 150W. What's s normal H7 or H8, 55W?

Not sure whether these will be illegal as a result. Would expect a straightforward equivalent replacement for a 55W Halogen to be between 5W and 7.5W each.
