A few GT/MK3 questions!

Post by Petrified »

1. I've heard there is a Black interior and a grey interior for the GT. Does anyone have any pictures of the two to see the difference?

2. At what age can you legally de-cat the car? (Mines on a J plate)

3. Does it have a rev limiter? I didn't want to try it out..

4. The previous owner decided to snip the radio out leaving me with no plugs on the ends of the wires. I've worked out the speakers but not sure which wire is which. Anyone know of a diagram or and info on this??

5. How do you remove the side repeaters without braking them? I know it should be simple but I've never had to do it before

6. I'm getting a lot of creaking from the steering wheel, the steering it'self is faultless but sounds like the wheel is rubbing on something. Any suggestions?

I have had a search on the forum but struggled to find any info.

Cheers. I feel like a newbie again!
James.

Up to J - from K you are stufed unless you know a friendly MOT man - so on J you are OK to de-cat

Push back or forward - one way they move more then the free end should be free to pop out

Now when I had me MKII I would have dearly loved to have cured that - it's worse in winter tho

If you find an answer to the steering squeaking let me know.. my mum's shogun is really getting on my nerves atm, always squeaking when you turn the wheel..

If you can hear a rubbing sound it might be the cowling on the steering column, I kneed mine ages ago and cracked it so now it rubs on the steering wheel. Annoying, but not so much that I'm desperate to go to a scrappie and buy a new one. I'm so lazy!

Rev limiter kicks in at the top of the rev counter. I've hit it once overtaking a truck in 4th and my god does it cut the power off. It's very sudden too, unlike the Ibiza I rented in Majorca this year which slowly eased the power off as I progressed into the red area of the dial.

there are two different types for the black GT interior. the one in the photo is the early blabk GT interior and the one that Pettsy has is probobly the later type

Yes and you have stolen both those pictures off me! :P

The standard rev limit on a GT is 6800rpm

My light blue gt is creaky and heavy to steer. could be the steering damper or mechanism in general. On mine I recon its been adjusted (poss too tight?) becuase the heavier steering is a mystery. (and its not due to the engine! )

Yes I did :P

I can live with the steering, it's better than my mk2 golf was anyway! I might have a play about with it see what happens!
