At a fraction of the cost of a VW dealer.

Great job!

Well that is me in the position of needing to replace a driver's side door mirror assembly on my wife's August 2015 Polo SEL!

Slight error in judgment on the part of an older driver driving towards me on a straight section of country road, and he needed to overtake a couple of cyclists, suddenly moving across to my side of the centre line while I was actually in line with these cyclists going the other way was never going to work, I think that his brain had switched off for a moment, neither party was using silly speeds so no good reason as to why it happened, even my wife knew he was 100% in the wrong, as he later admitted after talking to his insurance company.

I'd rather fix this up myself as I have a proper dislike for involving insurers over small matters as they tend to like to hear about this sort of thing and increase your premium for the next few years which probably costs me more than buying used parts and fitting them myself! In this sort of "small claim no blame" situation you the innocent party usually end up being a revenue generator for your own insurer. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

So the cost of all the required parts to fix a "hit" mirror assembly is just under £100, this includes a new "FRAME" + a new "TURNSIGNAL" + a new "CAP - primed" and a VW correct colour SPRAY PAINT twin pack" - in my case the heated mirror glass remained intact.

I had some marks on my piano black mirror shell
(BGT).

Rather than faff around with priming and painting I bought a pair of carbon fibre shells from VW, they look pretty smart and were not prohibitively expensive.

You could achieve the same effect even more cheaply by wrapping the original shells, that would disguise any repair job you had carried out too.
