If you have a scout through the GTi bit of the forum there are a few threads on induction kits - I think I asked about it not long after signing up! General opinion at the moment is that a regular induction kit soaks up too much heat from the engine bay, therefore reducing power

What you could do with is a shielded induction kit, which is why us GTi owners are all buying BMC induction kits 8) however there are alternatives, both Pipercross and K&N are developing kits which should work much better on the Mk5 - for a cost!

I dunno about the lower-powered models but certainly on the GTi you'd not gain anything in performance, but you would on the other hand get that nice induction "roar"

Yeah i think the k&N Induction kits come in about £100+,

I dont want to be losing power, and not gain in such respect - i just like the "roar"

But if im losing power from the engine bay heat, i'd rather do it proper with the K&N or the other solutions !!!

Pritty Dear Induction Kits :|

IS the Induction kits on the Gti the Same for the mk5 16v Polo's or similiar ?

Cheers

k&n's shouldnt be as dear as 100 quid!
i got mine for 55 pounds and most were in the 55 to 70 quid bracket
unless they've gone up since
then i realised mines actually for the mk4, but still fits ok

yup mk4 ones fit, the one i got was for a mk4 1.0/1.4 mpi engine, i looked under bonnet and mine says 1.0 mpi, so i assume if your engine is mpi then the mk4 mpi 1.4 one will fit
bit of a mouthful!

Suppose, How come the mk4 ones work ? Mine is a mpi , as ull know :)

The guy in my street bought a mk5 8v , with a k&N on it , he was saying if i gave him my air box he would give me the k&n for nothing , but being the 8v polo , wouldnt it make my 16v run alot diffrent ?!? Do i presume right ?

I hate all this air filter stuff ! I;m wanting to get one sometime this month , so whats the best bet to go for ? A K&N or another company ?
