Supercharger or Turbo
Supercharger or Turbo
Just wondered if it would be possiblet to add a supercharger or turbo to a "normally aspirated" car engine like the 1.4 Polo in anyway? Or would a engine swap be a much better option?

I just mean use an engine that originally came with a turbo or supercharger on it rather than trying to use one on an engine not designed to take one.david burton wrote:you usually have to lower the compression when fitting a turbo - so either change the lift or skim the piston heads (i think), or get a new head.
a factory forced induction kit is a turbo or charger direct from the original manufacturer, IIRC
Any type of forced induction (turbo/supercharger) effectively raises the compression ratio, a lot! Any worthwile amount of boost requires significant engine mods, or it will have the life expectancy of a mayfly. As others have pointed out the easiest way to go is a transplant, either that or a fat cheque book & plenty of patience.

actually in the process of developing supercharger setup up for polo 6n/6n2 at the minute can't give u a exact price of setup YET!
its literally just a bolt on system though so no heavy engine mods and as long as you service your car regular you will have no problems with reliability.
roughly at the minute:-
rotrex charger at about 7psi (not confirmed may go up or down yet)
extra row of injectors for manifold and a seperate management system to control including all plumbing and pipe work.
using my own polo for development work
its going on the rolling road after new year to see what the engines putting out as standard
then the system is going on let you know how it goes and any end figures if anyone is interested
theroretically the system should fit any polo
