My Day at the Rollers

Took my car to Aberdeen on Sunday to put it on the Rolling Road. Was a fun day out if not abit disapointing. Great roads, great to have the speed to overtake all the caravaners.

Anyway, got 113bhp @ 6500rpm and 96lbs/ft @ 5000rpm, bit of a let down considering my mods and in comparison to the firgures others have got on porka. Although Im unsure on both the acuracy of the RR I used and the porka regular.

Somewhat suprising considering my recent encounter with a modified 106 GTi that couldnt pass me and a similar story with a 146bhp 206 GTi on the Sunday.

Guess I will find out when I take the car to Dastek for a chip and map. In the meantime here are some pics and a vid of me on the rollers.

good stuff - interesting to see.

i wouldn't compare to other owners - you never know about rolling roads etc and without seeing other printouts. i guess a shootout day is the best idea.

there's always a story to be heard about racing other cars - just look att the mk3 gt 0-60 thread, or anywhere on porka. i have plenty too

, i even raced my housemate in his 1.8T seat, and i could have blagged it that i was keeping up - but he had a bad start and the turbo wasn't spooling, and after 100m he was past me and pulling away like a steam train, so in the end it's all down to judgement and some guesswork.

the real test is a 1/4 mile and / or 0-60. have you done either of those yet?

p.s i really want your manifold!

Nope not tried on the 1/4 yet.

With my little race stories Im not exagerating. The 106 GTi couldnt pass me and it was over a good mile and the 206 GTi was getting better starts off the roundabouts, hes a better driver than me but I was stuck to him like glue.

It is stupidily fast compared to what it used to be....I might try and get a vid of my accelleration 2moro on the way to work. SHould be fun.

i'm surprised you aren't pushing out more - especially with the mods - what % loss (wheels to flywheel) did he presume?

i know you ain't fibbing - i just like to see figures cos i hear too many stories from forum to forum. oh, that and a good old power to weight ratio is always good. 206 is quoted at 8 secs 0-60, so it's all possible!

p.s. did he have a fan infront of the car to cool it down? is the current list of engine mods the same as in the members rides section?

get yourself down a 1/4 miler / 0-60 sprint

then i can tell my mates that the polo aint a shopper car!

They didnt have a fan, I dont know what they had. It was a tunnel disapearing upwards and blow out wind so strong they had to tie peoples bonnets down.

Its a brand new RR and the company is new too so might not be 100% accurate.

My car is stripped out so they helps it go alot but so was the 206.

If my car was pushing out 100bhp standard then a 13bhp increase is probably about right.

tempted in stripping it out if I ever don't have to do 200 miles of motorway each week....

and it would be nice to try and tune it up a bit - do you think your exhaust system helped at all, no cat etc?

Yeh think it has made a difference. The baffles in my backbox rattle like fook with the improved air flow.

Decat helped alot because I allready had the manifold so it was the only thing restricting the flow.

as sum1 said b4, itll be worthwhile timing 0-60mph times etc. with GPS and that will be very accurate (more accurate than our speedos!
