Headlight pattern :0

Post by Andrew S »

I have fitted a replacement headlight on my 9n and bulbs etc are all standard but have aligned the main beam Ok but dipped is miles out with a large spread of light.

The headlight level motor is working and it moves up and down using the levelling switch but despite the bulb not being very tight in place for some reason, I can’t work out why this is happening

Can it be the bulb itself? Or is the positioning or seating of the bulb?

Can’t think what else it can

Any help appreciate
Cheers

Found this from wodder on another thread

"If you are looking at the headlight with the bonnet open you will see a hole on top of the panel, below the hole is a white adjuster. A screwdriver can be dropped through the hole and you can wind the beam up or down as you require. For width adjustment there is the same thing right up against the wing."

Also attached a diagram

Hope that helps :)

Thank you Bepis

What is concerning me is the light pattern, as they are so different

I am changed the bulb in case that was the problem and I can see that the bulb is correctly seated (I think)

Now that I look at it I am wondering of the passenger side has a smaller light pattern and should that be bigger?

The headlight motor goes up and down both sides but if I screw down the dipped headlight, the main beam is too low

Very confused

Thanks for your help and support

Do both sides have the same bulbs and housing? I'd be leaning to a bulb seating issue as the dipped beam (if that's what the top picture is) is considerably different between the left and right especially as its got a hard cut above the hotspot.

Thanks

Although the right hand side one is high, does it look right and are you saying the left one is small and wrong?

On my own car, both hotspots are level and the beam pattern is near enough the same but the left headlight does not have a hard cut above the hotspot and the beam if anything on the left goes slightly further up on the left edge.

Sorted and you were right, one headlight was cutting off on top so I changed the bulb and the other, the bulb was t quite seated.
All aligned and frustration ended
Thanks for your help Bepis, got there in the end
Cheers
