never mind trying to get 195s onto 8 inch wheels
would 165s sit ok on 4.5 inchers?
i do know 165mm = 6.5 inches...
but then not even 135s are without overhang at 5.3 inches.
just cuz, if im going for new tyres, i may as well get wide ones if they give me a decent quote for that. so far its a pretty good one for 155s(/70r13), nice discount for reasonable quality tyres (mich energies - as high class as 155 gets) - if i could repeat that saving for 165s, and maybe go up a class (primacies, say), then woooo
the anti-stretch

I does depend a bit on the profile but lets say /65 165's can be fitted onto the following rims (within the tyre makers parameters for fitment) both pirelli and Uniroyal quote this.
4.5 Min
5.0 Opt
5.5
6.0 Max

soooooo might be best to stick with the 155s (by those maths, 4.5J would be "opt")???
might pick the tyre guy's brains, or at least his computers price list (he's a bit simple, bless), see what the difference is. it's only like 50% between 155/80 and 195/45 at this local F1 branch, so i dont reckon it'd be too bad. but then that does mean i'd once again be running different sizes each end.
bugger... 155s it is
btw b'sy, are you the only one what knows stuff on these round here?

modern? the III series is prehistoric!
there was sync software available for the amiga and everything
some guys like gareth gt suggested 165s as well, im tempted.... but itd mean continuing to have 2 different sizes on which im not sure about, particularly as the bigger one would be a grippier make. as well as being considerably more expensive, if the rough price guide in their newspaper advert is anything to go by (wider + lower profile = at least +50% for not a great benefit)..... multiply that by two because it'd be best to get them done all round = nah
mebbe if i do end up keeping it by some fluke, or getting another polo / other car that sits on 100x4 e38 with skinnies
in other words: rats
