I'm guessing even with the XDS diff at that point it's very good at spinning the fronts?

On the XDS diff. Is it the same as the one in the golf GTi performance?

the xds is not the same as golf gti performance iirc. It just brakes the slipping wheel to force the power the other way.

ive fixed mine by fitting a quaife LSD :lol:

So a faux XDS that uses the ABS rather than a haldex system of sorts between the driveshafts?

Seems a lot can be done to these small cars to make them very quick. I guess that can be said for most cars across the VAG range.

exactly that. it is decent tbh but since ive had the diff fitted it's ALOT better.

yeah there is quite a few mods available for these cars (i've got racing line intake and turbo elbow, forge muffler delete, gfb dv+, wagner intercooler , milltek sports cat and non resonated cat back, sachs organic clutch and single mass flywheel, quaife LSD, vibratechnics dog bone mount, eibach lowering springs, leon cupra R brembo front brakes, 256mm vented rear brakes, whiteline rear anti roll bar, 4h-tech short shifter. lol)

Does the sports cat still pass an MOT as the EA888s seem to benefit a lot from an intake, downpipe and a tune but obviously the cat is in the downpipe right up on the turbo?

yeah vw did the last mot and passed it no problem even with the extra noise.

i'm not sure it would pass at the moment though lol as i've fitted golf r injectors and fuel pump

Thanks for the info on the performance and tuning side. Seems there's a lot of potential in this car.

Just a word of warning from someone who has spent 20years working in the motor insurance industry. You mentioned that you fall into the 17-25 age range so insurers will already be nervous if you buy a 6c GTI. If you are looking at serious modifications they'll go into melt down with most refusing to cover you, so I'd suggest you get some quotes first unless you are first name terms with the Sultan of Brunei. Insurers would prefer people to buyer faster standard cars than modify slower cars as they know what risks they are insuring with standard faster cars ( modifications can be poorly executed, deliver unknown results and may not be balanced with adequate safety systems such as braking, suspension, tyres etc )

Fair point as I'm not on first name terms with the Sultan of Brunei and I doubt I'd have the funds to push the car anywhere near 350hp. Like you said the insurers would be quite nervous so I imagine what I do to the car will be determined by my insurance premium.

In terms of modifying, i agree claiming all the mods for a 350bhp would leave a big hole in your pocket.
However putting a sports cat exhaust on with a stage 1+ remap shouldn't break the bank.

Navigation units can be upgraded, there is a company based just north of Worcester - VW Retrofits who are highly rated in MK7 world.
Check them out on Instagram as they post ready to fit units specially coded for your car. You'd be looking at around £500-600 for a new unit.
HazzyDayz get positive too but they are much more pricey.

My plans once I've had the car for a year or two (to build driving experience and NCB) would be a stage 2 map at the most with brakes, suspension, etc. With having to replace the clutch once you push the power, having an LSD fitted at the same time would seem like a logical step given it doesn't have a real XDS like on the MK7 GTi performance but all depending on cost and insurance.

I'll give VW retrofits a look :D

exactly that i paid for the LSD and fitting and they fitted my clutch and flywheel at the same time for nothing.

Could you tell me what is the difference between Quaife QDF16R (for 02Q gearbox) and QDF13R (for 02M gearbox)?
Polo 6R/6C has gearbox 0A8 and I don't know which LSD is correct for Polo.

6-speed gearboxes from Polo:
  • 0A8300044GX PNU (6R 2.0 TSI)
  • 0A8300044L QQR (6C 1.8 TSI, AW 2.0 TSI)
which Quaife do you use in your Polo?

which Quaife do you use in your Polo?
QDF13R is the correct one for a 6c polo gti

Thanks! I read on German forums it's good upgrade, here you are also happy with Quaife, so I will check this :-)

I wrote to the Quaife manufacturer, but they didn't know what could be used for the 0A8 gearbox. They sent me to TSR Performance. According to TSR Performance the 13R is ok for Polo :)
