Faulty headlights

Post by Hollie_ »

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help?
I have a VW polo TDI 1.2 2012. My headlights are working when I start my engine but my dash doesn’t light up, which is normal, but when I turn the dial for day time lights then dipped beam I then have no lights yet my dashboard lights come on.
I have recently got the car and I am trying not to spend a lot of money on it but obviously lights are a necessity! I have bought a matching brand new light switch unit and tried and it has made no difference. Both of my lights work as shown when I turn the ignition on but I don’t have a clue what else it could be. Not yet wanting to go to any specialist, just seeing what I could do. Does anyone know where the relay is for the lights? Also my main beam and fog lights work perfectly it is just the dipped headlights. Thanks! :D

Hi Hollie_

Can you tell us what sort of headlight you currently have? Is the unit with big turn signal, DRL and just one bulb for low beam (H4)? or is it the dual-bulb unit with the turn signal at the bottom?

Have you tried to do a check at night, and see if there's any difference?

Thanks!

Yes, this is normal behaviour. This is called the daytime running lights. Dauerfahrlicht in German.
