I had this light on my dash, you'd better have it checked !

I had the car diagnosed, turned out it was the Brake Light Switch - Reset that and Reset the EPC light ! No Hastle Now :)

The car was also in Limp Mode - Which cant be good to drive around on !

I think its commonly caused by the Brake Light Switch - Normall when a few brake lights have blew - In my case !!

Have any of ur brake lights been replaced ?

Generally speaking, if your EPC light comes on then theres something going on that the engine management system doesn't like! Best bet is to get your car to a VW garage and get it checked out.

Could be a brake light. Could be something more serious  altho if the car is driving OK then perhaps the ECU is managing to compensate for whatever has caused the EPC light to come on? When my cambelt tensioner went, the EPC light didn't come at all. VW engineer suggested that the ECU was managing to compensate for the damage by latering other settings, so perhaps something like that is going on with yours. But anyway. Most of the time, EPC light = take car to garage :?

mine did this on my last car it was when the rear washer had split into the boot and the boot sensor was funny. i took the rear liner out and gave it a good dry out then was fine. maybe even if it is dry due to it being wet b4 then minerals may have deposited on the sensor and so would be faulty. cant be and expensive part. id get it from a breakers!

Easy one to fix and costs pennies even from VW - the switch gets corroded and costs about £1.90 there is a post somwhere on here that details the fix. Search for my posts its in there. Finding the bloody switch took the longests then it took me about 25 minutes to fix.

further updates! needed to find out if the switch was a 2pin or 4pin (dont know why they made different ones!) so removed the switch to look, re-connected it and later that day the ESP light went out, so the car is now bak to normal! saved me a fiver anyway!
