Replacement Keys

Post by _freddynn »

I bought a 2010 1.4 SE as my first car, and it only came with one key, the key doesn’t have any buttons on it, just a VW logo in the middle. I’ve had a look online and it says that when the car was new, it should’ve come with 2 remote central locking keys. I decided to buy a remote central locking key from VW and went to get it programmed today but they couldn’t do it because the key didn’t fit the car and they said it was cut wrong. They’re going to reorder one but I’m wondering whether the car has ever had the locks changed (if that can be done) since I don’t think it would’ve come with a button-less key when new. Is there any way I’d be able to find out if it has, or what I would do if the locks have been changed and this new key also doesn’t fit?

Having a look through old brochures online, I’m pretty sure the SE spec came with 2 remote central locking keys as standard but I could be wrong

You could be correct about the locks being changed, maybe the car keys were stolen and the insurance paid for new locks but only a basic key.

It might be better to get this car scanned either by someone you know that has VCDS or similar, and get a VW Group local Indie Specialist to scan it - failing that your local VW dealer, and if you pay for that they should give you the results of the scan which will tell you and them if that car has central locking or remote central locking - or ask your local VW dealership for a copy of "CAR DATA" for that car, that should include if it has central locking or remote central locking and might even be given to you free.

You have been very lucky if a VW dealer just used the factory information and the key lock pattern is or seems to be wrong. I'd guess if a proper VW dealership "re-locked" a car for a customer, that new info would get stored with VW mothership and doing that would have been part of the charge for "re-locking" - that is if in fact it has been "relocked" - from a picture of that key a VW dealer should have been able to work out what the pattern was.

Remote flip key is 8$ from aliexpress and it looks like original. Just go to a lock smith to copy your immo chip, cut it, and pair the remote.
