Polo 6C GTI Stalk Removal.

Post by Evo »

Apologies. Search isn’t being much help here or google.

I’ve removed airbag. Steering wheel and clockspring. But how the hell do I remove the stalks? I unplug them both sides. I can see the unit is all in one. But there is not a single fixing to undo? And seems the key barrel runs through the middle of the stalks. I’ve been at it for hours.

I’ve have a replacement ordered. As my high beam is permanently on currently.

I hope everyone’s Sunday has been better than mine lol.

Oh man. You do not wanna see the current state of my polo. I removed the dash.

I’ve answered my own question. There is a 3rd clip on the underside that literally releases the stalks. Man that thing held the stalks on there good.

All this to get to the defrost flap motor/sensor. And I’m still a long way off.

good to read you got it off.

i feel your pain regarding the dashboard. i once did my climatronic retrofit and it really requires all of the dash to go..

but you're replacing the defroster flap, which one is that? the flap that regulates recirculation? or windshield flow?
for the recirculation flap you do not need to remove the dashboard, just the fan and glove box and you can reach it.

Wow. Well that’s where I need to get haha.
The windscreen flap blower motor. It’s messed my whole hvac system up. As it won’t accept a basic setting. I’m hoping if I can get access I can use some electrical contact cleaner to clean the p.meter. (I live by the ocean)
I have new stalks in order as the small plastic switch for the high been has broken at the end unfortunately

If I had to remove the dashboard to get access to a flapmotor, I'd e replacing it was a brand new one as I would not want to have to repeat that dashboard removal again soon.

It is normally the positional feedback track or wiper that causes most problems due to lack of use, there are some people that can remove, take apart and clean and refit with good results, many others remove break then need to buy a new flapmotor.

Yeah. I need to get to it first to get a part number.
I’ve kind of given up removing at the moment. Hell of a job. If anyone knows of a way to remove the ducting from the passenger footwell without removing the dash let me know. I can reach and unplug the motor with some pliers. It’s in a c@!t of a spot.
