On the Mk4 it's a 30 second job.
Open the door, look at the handle.
You'll notice it's held in place with a single Torx screw, visible if you look towards the front of the car at handle-height.
Undo that screw.
Slide the handle forward, about half an inch.
Pull the lock-side of the handle towards you.
Slide the handle back a bit and take out the other end as well.
Done.

well heres my quick guide that turned out pretty well --
1. take the door handles off and then rub them down with sandpaper adding a bit of water to clean it and get any surface dirt off of it.
2. cover the area u do not want to spray with masking tape i.e. the metal lock and the opening mechanism etc.
3. get primer (i got mine from halfords in a spray can) then spray the handles lgihtly, being craful not to add too much so that it runs, repeat 3 or 4 times.
4. once dry add the vehicle colour and same with primering, not adding so much paint that would give a bad finish.
5. once dry, give it about 2 light coats of laquer and wait to dry.
6. remove the masking tape.
7. wap them on the car and stand back and admire the colour coding.
for me, i went through about 3 odd cans of primer, 3 cans off vehicle colour spray and one can of laquer, not to forget the sandpaper and water probably available in any decent household.

ive done some of my interior like the heater control front, some vents and the triangle things on the inside of the door, but does anyone know how to remove the centre plastic, big bit in the middle. i found 2 screws above the heater controls once but it wasnt enough.
Oh and can anyone tell me how to remove the outer plastic from the dash board, once again ive seen 2 screws but i cant get to them and ive tried moving the wheel to its lowest point.
