Meet my new 18s!

Post by KarlM »

To cheer myself up after having to order some Bears (i still feel unclean), i treated myself to some new alloys!! :P

Bear in mind the car has a slight Jap/DTM look to the new bodykit, and i think the anthrite will set the colour off great.

What you can't see in the picture is that the wheels have a chrome lip.

Unfortunatly i can't get any pics of them on the car cause they've been sent straight to the body shop.

Let me know what you think!

I can not believe you're fitting 18's! Amazing. In a good way, mind- fits your car's concept well I think.

Understandable btw that the cars in the shop, how much work does that take? Must be a PITA for sure!

Congrats!

I like them, I'm a bit of a fan of anthracite wheels anyhow.
Are they BK Racing ?. What size tyres will you run on them ?.

tyres will be 215/35's unless u can get any smaller ones!! :D

Are you getting the fronts arches modified as 17's are s**t for full lock but 18's would be non existant!! I'm thinking of cutting and welding a pate inside to allow the wheel more movement, but it'll be a real hassle I reckon :?

Should Look well on those rims as long as skirts and bits make it look lower, cos lowering will be more difficult, and then you'll get the "roller skate" taunt as most of us with 17's get

@ Jake - Yeah they are BK Racing 122s in 'black chrome' on 215/35R18 tyres.

@ Col - The inner arches have been ground right back about as far as they can safely go and the outside metal arch has been flared. FYI this was done by warming up the metal then using a arch dolly (a arm that bolts to your wheel hubs and has a roller on the other end

PS these will be my daily wheels, my show wheels will be 7X19'' TSW PACE alloys as seen in this months max power (when they finally get round to sending them)

18's for everyday use, and 19's for show... That would be a first then!

Oh, one more at Col, 18s are almost a necessity when you see how low the bodykit is.
Fair play to ya!! :D Will the 19's go on the rear tho?? I know 18's with 215/35's leave about 20mm between the 1/4 panel and the tyre (front side of wheel) and that's not lowered!! And I wouldn't like to see the fronts!! but if you've got the money anythings possible :D

Will definitely be a first on 19's that's for sure!! 8)

im sorry for these comments, but they just need to be said.18 and 19inc wheels will look a fking disgrace on ur mrk 4 polo.
ive got a list for u to think about.
1.disgraceful looks
2.less respect
3.less top end speed
4.inaccurate clocks
5.less pick up.
6.very poor handling
7.dangerous.(exploding tyes) caused by
8.rubbing

im sorry for the comments but modified volkswagens are ultra stlylish respectable boys racers.

Just as long as he likes it then it doesn't matter! There will always be boy racer versions of any cars, just accept them then think about the ratio of boy racer polos to say, boy racer novas! I'm not saying Karl is a boy racer of course!!

Let him do what he wants!

How can you judge with out knowing the full story?

The whole original idea of the car was as a promotional tool for a business venture. It wasnt going to be a daily driver.

Anybody thats worked in marketing knows any publicity is good publicity. The car would have been talked about purely because it went agasint everything in the VW world. I had people coming to look at it in the shop just becasue they had heard what i was planning.

In case you don't know the rest of the story (which you obviously don't) the bodykit never materialised becasue I got stitched up by the shop (Carlton Auto in Barnsley - complete bastards the lot of them they origanally quoted £500 to have the kit made if they could use the models, I get an invoice for £1500!)

I sold the 18s as well cause i sort of realised I wouldn't be able to afford tyres! btw 19s don't fit. at all. ever. don't even go there.

I shall now go and put some deep dish 15s on, some mk5 rear lights and a dietrich front bumper so it looks like every other polo on the UK scene. (no offence to Alex)
