66 plate 1.4 tdi blue motion Stop Start

Post by Chrismills53 »

Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice. To keep this brief, I recently got a 2016 VW Polo, 1,4 TDI Bluemotion. I knew the battery was dodgey and therefore assumed that when I change it, the stop start will work.

(I used my OBD scanner and deleted the code that said battery voltage low (P0562))

After changing the battery to a Bosh stop start battery, it still says on my car status: "power consumption is high".

I have tried turning everything I possibly can, off. The car has been driven 50+ miles on the new battery.

I've seen some people say that even after deleting the code with the OBD scanner, the message still stays in your ECU, preventing the stop start activating.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this? It would be greatly appreciated.

I had this message for maybe two weeks, probably due to only making short but regular trips, or maybe because I disconnected the battery once. Then, after a 1h long trip it magically went back to normal.
I can't guarantee that there's a correlation, but I'm pretty sure that you need one of these long drives to reset the system.

To be fair the longest drive I have had is probably 40 mins, I am going to pick a family member up 2 hours away on Sat so potentially this might fix it, fingers crossed.

Appreciate your comment buddy.

Can I assume this car was bought second hand ? Maybe the previous owner didn’t like the stop/start feature and coded it out , this would give the same message as you have with no other warning lights on.I would have thought changing a battery for one with a good state of charge ie 80% + would normally fix this. You could try charging the new battery to get over 80%.

Just a thought

I have tested the voltage on the old battery, and the new one. The old battery was 12.5V when ignition off and 14.5 when ignition on.

Do I need VCDS to check if the Start stop activate voltage had been changed?

Battery voltage is different to SOC, you can have 12.5 volts but also have only 25% SOC get the battery properly tested
Yes you will need a tool of some kind to check what the s/s voltage threshold is set at

A brand new battery surely should have a high state of charge? Given it's a decent £150 bosh battery

I totally agree with that , a new battery should have a good SOC but how long was it sitting on a shelf before it was sold?
Just a quick test could eliminate the battery as a issue 👍
