fuel filler cap stuck on VW Polo (2014)

Post by hammond_giles »

Hi

I have seen this topic pop up a few times in the past, but I am having trouble with a stuck fuel filler cap. This has been an intermittant problem over the past few months, but I am now unable to open the cap. I tried the solution given in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oot2T52ASqs (0:50 into the video), a sharp percussive shock,but this does not seem to help. I was also qite persistent and tried several times :-)

I also peeled back the boot liner carpet, and the resulting images are shown below. You can see the seatbelt attachment here on the left

and the light cluster spring on the right

So my questions are;

1. is there anyway to get to the actuator motor from inside. I see the wiring goinng into the bulkhead, but the solendoid actuator seem to be well concealed behind the locked filler flap?

2. Is there another way to manually release the filler flap without trying to break the locking mechanism?

thanks, Giles

Bump!

Mainly because I have not given this much thought but I do understand it is always something that can go wrong!

I seem to remember noting down the part number of an emergency "yanker" piece of nylon, but unsure if it can be fitted to Polo fuel flap mechanism.

Try maybe tapping lightly around the filler cap. Tapping can sometimes help the el. Motor.
