Head unit software versions and FLAC support

I have a Device part number: 6C0035869F, Hardware: 050, Software: 7082.

I was hoping to be able to play FLAC files since my music collection is all FLAC.
But it seems that I have to convert my music to MP3s in order to play them in my car from SD.
Is there a way to upgrade something in my car in order to be able to play FLAC without spending way too much money?

What is the latest software version for my device?
How do you upgrade the software, is it something that only a vw dealer can do for a lot of money?
