BCM Limp Mode

Post by heftyshooly »

Hello! I have a 2015 1.4TDI 6C Polo with a BCM Limp mode problem. After many attempts at fixing the problem by myself with no success, I would really appreciate any kind of information.

So, last weekend I was trying to diagnose why my new RLS from eBay would not be recognized. I proceeded to disconnect BCM connector C and tested for continuity between the respective pin and the other end of my RLS wiring harness. I must say I inserted a thin wire into the BCM pins (including some grounds) in order to have something to touch with the multimeter probe. Ended up reconnecting everything, as the wiring seemed to be correct.

So here the problem begins: the car shows no error whatsoever before firing the ignition and even after starting the engine; I can even drive around without any problems, but as soon as I turn on the headlights, all kinds of errors show up at the MFD and the BCM enters limp mode. With OBDeleven, I could only get one error code: C10CA00, Limp home active.

I suspect that this might be a grounding issue... Maybe some terminals got loose and no longer make good contact with the BCM, so I tried reconnecting and inspecting the terminals several times with no success. Any tips on how to debug this are welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Finally solved the issue! Turns out it was a silly coding incompatibility in the Leuchte configurations.
In case it might be useful to someone else, this was the problem:

Code: Select all

Leuchte25KZL HA60:
	Type_Of_Load_25:
LED Kleinleistung ohne Open Load Diagnose
	Lampendefektbit_Position_25:
		0
	Fehlerort_mittleres_Byte_DTC-DFCC_25:
		0
	Light_Function_A_25:
		nicht aktiv
	Light_Function_B_25:
		nicht aktiv
	Dimming_AB_25:
		60
	Light_Control_HD_AB_25:
		always
	Light_Function_C_25:
		Standlicht
	Light_Function_D_25:
		nicht aktiv
	Dimming_CD_25:
		30
	Dimming_Direction_CD_25:
		maximize
	Light_Function_E_25:
		nicht aktiv
	Light_Function_F_25:
		nicht aktiv
	Dimming_EF_25:
		0
	Dimming_Direction_EF_25:
		maximize
	Light_Function_H_25:
		nicht aktiv
	Dimming_GH_25:
		0
	Dimming_Direction_GH_25:
		maximize
	Light_Function_G_25:
		nicht aktiv
So, surprisingly, having light functions A and B not assigned, while C was assigned was causing the BCM to go crazy into Limp mode as soon as the parking lights were turned on. No idea why... It's definitely a silly configuration, but still quite an unusual way of handling errors.

In my defense, I have some non-OEM function assigned to slot A, I just decided to clear it before taking the car to a garage. Not the best idea!
