Polo 6C cluster replacement

Post by Le_Combattant »

In the goal of restoring damaged parts of my car, I'm was focused today on the upper and lower
steering column trim.

On the key side there are many scratches made by the last owner so I decided to removed both of them
to pick up the parts number.

But during the process and even with the official VW PDF, I managed to broke both clips that are in the lower part of the cluster....
I share a picture of what happen (it's not my cluster, but the idea is here)

In the PDF it's wrote

"Release gap cover -1- from mountings."

Personnaly I pulled down,
The correct move was to pull it in direction of steering wheels...

Be more precise VW.

And last but not least, one of the two screws maintaing the cluster drops somewhere between the fuse box and the center console. After many hours impossible to get it. I would have to remove the entire center consol to have access on the side. But it's an other story.

So I'm with a cluster damaged and the upper steering column trim can't be re installed correctly.

I check the price for the new cluster (part number 6C0920740A ) and it's about 800 euros. Dead for me.
I had to check the second hand market.

There is planty offers but I don't know what to choose.
I also heard there is a sort of coding to do or something like this.

I found those website with different offers:

https://srotas24.co.uk/car-parts/?searc ... 40A&page=1
https://eurofrance24.com/search/6C0920740A

I'm a little bit lost, electronics is not my main field

You will just take the plastic pieces from donator cluster, if you dont fancy spending money programming the cluster at dealer or lock smith.
Easy job

The idea hit me right after posting it.

Excellent, I gonna check a good model with a fair price.

Question about coding: why cluster need to be coding if changed ?
Why it's not plug and play ? Cluster isn't considered as simple instrument isn't it ?

The cluster has immobiliser codes inside, new unit comes blank used unit has codes from other keys.
Requires re-coding
