Air circulating fan and interior central door locking switch

Post by price01 »

Hello all, this is my first post so please excuse any gaffs.
I have a 62 plate Polo Match 1.4 auto. I think I have two electrical problems which may or may not be related. The first is the central locking switch on the drivers door is no longer working. Tried disconnecting the battery to sort it out, no joy.
The second is the air circulating fan switch on the dash does not seem to work on fan speeds 1 to 3 but does on the highest setting of 4. Any ideas what might be wrong here?

for the first problem, might be a faulty switch.
the second problem is a classic case of the fan resistor burned out. it's located on the fan housing, near the centre console, on the top.

@price01, hello and welcome!

Other things that you should do now is to check that the pollen filter is clear/clean and not restricting the air flow - which this "hedgehog" resistor pack needs to keep cool, and also, it seems try to get your fingers into where the pollen filter is located and turn the cabin fan motor - if its bearings are worn or otherwise damaged, that motor will draw more than usual current and that might have blown the original resistor pack, and so blow your new one quickly.

If the fan resistor has burned out would the fan work at all?

I've seen many variations in misspelling my name but Lichen is not one of those :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Sorry about that iichel, my eyesight im afraid.
Incidentally, regarding the drivers door central locking switch, replacing it didn't work, any other idea's as to what can be wrong?
