please help me drain/pump fuel!!!!

Post by blubsy »

so.., got filter off, have hot-wired pump, it makes a noise!?, no petrol, even with 2 of the 3 connected, , how can i get rid of my 40l of bad fuel??, i have a new filter and one hour of light left, it really shouldn't be such a huge task!?, and the relays, they seem pretty inaccessible, can i not just hot wire pump?, why not??
I've spent half the time on the internet, I just cant seem to get an answer to what would seem a totally common occurrence, wrong/bad fuel! how to get it out...thanks..

is there a fuel pump controller on top of the fuel pump cover?

if so you won't be able to hot wire the pump without connecting directly to the fuel pump basket cover.

thanks, I understand your point, and the knowledge that i can do that has been reassuring me that I wont be beaten!, but i reallly don't want to disturb the seal on pump and remove it exposing 40l of petrol and fumes!, its a pump, I just need to make it pump!! (wish i'd bought vcds / obd), hose is waiting in a nice new billy can, I think that i had polarity reversed, I assumed that the brown wire was positive, I think it was spinning the wrong way when i hot wired it thus failing to pump, at the moment with wiring re conected, when i turn the key i get about 100mll, so i could turn key on and off 400 times, but will try wiring the pump the other way today.. getting there... Ive been sniffing at three methods, mine, yours and trying to get to the relays, people seem to mention where they are casually , without giving any warning as to how stupidly deep into the dash they are mounted!!!
If pump wire switch goes well i will be able to perform the task again in under an hour-, I think the one line of help I wish I could have recieved 24 hours ago was this...- disconnect filter outlet, hotwire pump under back seat, 2 big wires, pump will spin wrong way if you get it wrong, but will pump fuel when connected the right way....

Soooo easy... disconnect filter outlet, hotwire pump,, thats all... i recon it could be achieved in under 1 min.. who would have thought that brown was negative and blue was positive!, domestic euro electrical wiring came to uk about 15 years ago, brown for positive, blue negative! FFS..

Oh in automotive, especially VW, brown has been the colour of the negative lead for near to a century
