I'm planning to replace the battery in my wife's 6c GTI as its coming up to 5 years old and the stop start system is going unavailable more and more often. I don't want to pay the extortionate prices VW quote when I can get the same spec battery from Tayna Batteries at less than half the price. What I would like to know is whether the car will need to be "told" to accept the battery as per all BMW's or can I simply fit the new battery as per the good old days
Many Thanks
Replacing 12v Battery. Has VW gone all BMW?

I think the battery does need to be coded to the car.

I think it would be good to adapt the new battery and make sure you have a battery suited for a start/stop system with recuperation.
