Hi all, my daughter just bought herself the above car and it only came with one key, not an electronic one just a simple key without buttons. Should this relatively base model have a proper flip key with the immobiliser/door opening etc?
If so, is it possible to get one on the cheap or is she looking at dealer costs here?
Cheers peeps
Edit: It does have central locking with the internal lock/unlock buttons. And there is a red flashing LED on the door indicating an alarm?

I believe that it would have originally come with 2 keys one flip remote key and one simple base key.
So it may be possible to ‘add’ a second flip key and code it to the car ,obviously the vw dealer would be best as they can get the key made to fit the OE door locks and code all in one visit,But a good locksmith could also do this.
My concern with a second hand vehicle would be who has the other key and do they know where the car is ?

My thoughts exactly when I found out....
It is possible to recode certain keys to different cars, did it with a passat years ago when one key failed. I bought a similar key off ebay and matched it to the car using the ignition coding trick. If that works with the polo then I can have it all sorted for £30.

Okay, well if you don't know if that car came with remote central locking, and no one has answered that question yet - maybe they all came with remote central locking, I can't say, then that needs clearing up first, so get yourself down to your most convenient VW dealership and go to their parts department and request a printed copy of "CAR DATA" for your car, they can get that for you directly from their parts system all you need to do is give them your reg number. That document will detail all options fitted to that car during the initial factory build, so if remote central locking is present in that car, then it should be listed on that document.
After getting that info, you could order a genuine second key, either a folding key with built in fob - or a basic key with lock and unlock buttons and a boot release button - if it has remote control central locking, or a basic key without buttons if that car does not have remote central locking.
On the subject of disabling the missing key, if you buy a second key from VW, you will need to get them to code it to that car for the immob part, when they do that, you will obviously be leaving them the only other key, so as part of the key coding, the system first removes all keys from the car's immob system, then adds back in the key that you have and the new key, so the missing key, while being able to unlock the car using either its remote central locking fob or the lock barrel, it will not be able to start the car and keep it running.
