Question regarding RCD330 replacement for MIB2 unit

Post by Toscani07 »

Hello,

I have recently bought a VW polo 6C, 2016 model and it comes with a composition media display without android auto.

After doing some research online I have seen that some other users bought an RCD 330 to replace their units so this is what I did.

The problem is that during my research I forgot to check my own unit to see if it has similar cables :( .

I have received the RCD 330 unit but I can't seem to find out if I can actually fit it to my car.

I will attach pictures with the one installed on my car and with the one I have bought.

I will attach a picture with the software version also in case I am able to receive an update that will have android auto.

I have tried calling the dealership and asking if I can receive a software update on my original display but they mentioned that it is too old even if it is MIB2 as I understand.

Thank you very much!

the 6c is not the same as the 6r.

the main unit in a 6c is in the glove box and the screen is just a screen.

you would have to pull the wiring from the glovebox to the dash.

you may loose a lot of functionality using a rcd330 in a 6c.

Thank you for the reply, Dink!

What do you mean about losing a lot of functionality.

I am not sure if it has that many special functions besides the car button that will show me the mileage.

It is already missing mirror link/android auto/gps functionalities.

Thank you!

the ability to reset the tyre pressure monitoring is one the you normally lose. there may be a way around it but don't know

there are lots of the car controls you might lose aswell depending on what factory options you have. (auto lights, reversing camera, auto wipers, folding mirrors etc.)

i would look to try and get a unlocking unit to fit in the glove box that will give you the app connect features (you may also need to replace the usb port)

Hi Toscani07,

I fitted an RCD330 into my 6R earlier this year, it was a trouble free install.

My car also has the TPMS and the box of tricks in the glove box and none of these functions were compromised.

You will need an aerial adaptor though.

I had to do a firmware update on the RCD330 to release the full functionality.

I have attached a couple of pictures to illustrate.

I cannot upload my firmware file, drop me a PM and I'll happily send via email. Just load it onto an empty memory stick, place it in the USB port on the front and follow the on screen instructions of the RCD330 in setup to upload the file. It took a short while for the RCD330 to "see" the firmware file on the memory stick, so be patient. Following that, everything was perfect.

there is a big difference between the 6r and 6c. the RCD330 is designed to be a plug and play install in the 6r. The 6c is much closer to mk7 golf electrics

the 6c resets the tyre pressure monitoring via the screen and has nothing to do it in the glovebox

Hi Dink,

would something like this be a cost effective solution for 6C owners?

probably but i'd still opt for an genuine unlocked unit from one of the many places that offer them.

the price may be a little bit more but you know the functionality is all going to be still there.
