Hi all
Recently got my 2015 R Line and one thing I’ve noticed is that it has a long gear change. There also seems to be a bit of wobble / play/ movement in the gear stick even when in gear, more so when in first and second. There no issue with the gear box itself as far as I can tell.
Is this normal for this type of car? Are there any connections/ bushings in the gear linkage which wear and that I could replace to make it firmer or does anyone know if there is a short shift kit available ?

Ah, the joys of the cable shifter.
I've been looking for a short shift kit as well, but not much luck finding for my 02U 6-speed box.
You can look on places like dieselgeek, maybe some of their bushings will help to take out some of the slop.

Thanks for the info, can’t see any filter for the polo though so presume they don’t do any.
Is the gearbox/ shifter shared with any other VW make/ model. For example, I’ve seen short shifters for the Polo GTI, is this a different gearbox/ shifter to the R Line?

Re: Gear change
I'm not sure of that at all.
The GTI 6-speed is a very different transmission to the 5-speed and 6-speed in the 1.2TSI. MQ350 in the GTI, MQ200 and MQ250 in the Polo, if I recall correctly.
Those that I have seen tend to mark them as applicable to the MQ350 only. I believe it'd be down to the spline size used on the shift tower arm and things like that. I recall a common swap was to use the lever from the TTS, but again that was probably on transmissions no the more powerful models. No idea if they're the same between transmissions. Wish I had some spare cash to buy a number of them and check, but that's not happening any time soon.

Re: Gear change
My 2016 BlueGT also has about 1.5-2cm of play from the top of the gearstick when in gear. So maybe it is normal, but I am putting it down to it getting loose over time, the car has 65k. Let me know if you find out what causes the play, as it is definitely something I'd like to look into. Probably the bushing or just the cables..
