2015 1.2 TSI 110 Engine Cover
2015 1.2 TSI 110 Engine Cover
Need a sanity check please. After having some work done on the car I thought the engine cover had gone AWOL, as I don't remember seeing the coil packs visible. But on checking some pics on Autotrader I'm suspecting it was a figment of my imagination, as none seem to have one. Can anyone confirm please it should look like this?

Rbz5146.
VW fitted the cosmetic engine cover that I think you have in mind to the EA211 engines in some of their cars, but apparently not the Polo.
The part number is 04E 103 925H. I bought one for my wife’s Blue GT from AliExpress for about £15. It looks completely OEM, and it tidies up the engine very nicely. Comes with the extra bracket needed for fixing. I can post a picture if you want to see what it looks like fitted.

Thanks guys. It's really odd because as I said, it struck me that the coils weren't visible previously. But then I'd never specifically looked at them prior to booking it in for a misfire.
Thanks Mike. I've seen them on the web so know what they look like. But if they require an additional bracket it would be useful to see where that goes. I can then check if it's present or looks as though it ever was. Although I'm pretty sure one wouldn't have been fitted aftermarket ,as the vehicle was only eight months old when I bought it with only the proverbial elderly lady owner on the V5.Mikeso51 wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 4:38 pmI can post a picture if you want to see what it looks like fitted.

Re: 2015 1.2 TSI 110 Engine Cover
I would not trust an "elderly lady" that had an AliExpress account, I'd buy that cover for my wife's 2015 1.2TSI 110PS in a flash - I think that I attempted to create an AliExpress account and started getting emails that assumed that I was a supplier and not a buyer!
Edit:- by the way, from that picture, it looks like that engine still has the original EVAP pipe fitted to it, and so must be making strange "beep beep beep - beeeeeep" noises when the EVAP solenoid is being switched.

Ok, here are a couple of photos. First shows the extra bracket which is needed to fit the cover. It attaches to the engine with a single setscrew. Second shows the cover in place. Bracket and screw supplied with the cover. Mine came from AliExpress, but there are plenty of other (more expensive) suppliers. Just Google using the part number.

Thanks Mike, greatly appreciated. I don't have that bracket so must have imagined a cover was there!Mikeso51 wrote: Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:38 am Ok, here are a couple of photos. That's one of the Autotrader pics but mine is also unmodified. Not enough of an issue on mine to bother me.RUM4MO wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 6:57 pm Edit:- by the way, from that picture, it looks like that engine still has the original EVAP pipe fitted to it, and so must be making strange "beep beep beep - beeeeeep" noises when the EVAP solenoid is being switched.

Re: 2015 1.2 TSI 110 Engine Cover
Hmm, most interesting.
I have to admit that that's a very smart-looking cover, and in practical terms it would, over a period, certainly keep a lot of dust and dirt from otherwise getting in amongst the spark plugs, coils and turbo plastics. But I notice that yours is a 110PS TSI engine. (My Polo's a 2017 6C Match Edition 1.2, with I think a 90PS engine, and that definitely came without any sort of engine cover). So, my guess is that that cover was only ever factory-fitted to certain models. Maybe only the lower output engines?
I imagine that the including of a cover like that is something that the designers at VW would have done with some reservation, as it seems to me that when doing so a risk is run of the components directly underneath the cover overheating and thence malfunctioning.

The car in my photos is a 150hp 1.4tsi Blue Gt, which has the EA211 engine. The 1.2 tsi has a lower capacity version of the EA211 engine, and the same cover will fit. Lower power polos not using this engine type can’t use the cover shown.
The same 1.4tsi EA211 engine is fitted to various more expensive VAG cars, including Golfs and the Audi A3 that I have, and these have covers. The 300hp Audi S3, where heat management might be expected to be more of an issue, also has a cover. Why a cover was not factory fitted on the EA211 Polos is a mystery. Maybe just cost-saving.

Re: 2015 1.2 TSI 110 Engine Cover
I'd agree that not fitting it to "lesser" cars like 1.2TSI Polo and its cousins will be down to penny pinching and nothing more.
Re: 2015 1.2 TSI 110 Engine Cover
This is still nagging at me so I think I'm going to have to buy one! Did yours come with the badge or did you have to source that separately? Just had a look at at AliExpress & all the current listings seem to be without the badge.

My cover has the VW part number, and appears to be a genuine VAG part. It has the VW logo as shown in my photo, though this wasn’t shown in the AliExpress ad for it. In fact all the AliExpress adverts seem to blur or remove the logo, and I imagine it’s to reduce the risk of running into trouble with VW. If in doubt I guess you could contact your chosen supplier and check, but I think it’s likely that they all sell the same part.

Re: 2015 1.2 TSI 110 Engine Cover
VW dropped the logo from the engine covers a while back. My 2020 Polo GTI+ came an engine cover with no logo from the factory, and I’m pretty certain the engine covers used in the mk8 Golf also don’t have a logo.
That may be why the AliExpress covers currently being sold don’t have the logo.
