2018 VW Polo MK10 GTI Belt noise.

Post by Andrewvw8 »

Morning All,

New to the forum Andrew from RSA here...

Not sure if this has been discussed before if so please point me in the correct dirrection...

Has anyone experinaced a belt sound/wine from the right side of the engine bay?

I have looked at the serptine belt looks ok.... it dosnst sound like a bearing noise its sound like a belt sound and it gets lounder when reving the car(Moves with the revs)

Best way i can explain it would be if you have installed sound before in you car and laid the earth wire next to the battery you get a altenator feebdack wine.

if anyone has any ideas please assit here.

TIA
Andrew

You could upload to https://wetransfer.com/ and share the link to it with is here. We could then download it locally and review.

That works okay, so anyone can listen to it, though I didn't hear anything nasty, just normal to me.

Hi Andrewvw8
Seems this website does not allow for video upload but the WeTransfer worked fine, I have the file. Is it more prominent under accelaration while driving or just is it just at idle?

I also see your vehicle is also stage 2 "ge-tune", just software or does it include hardware? Revo have finally launched their software and am keen to go stage 1 ECU and DSG, at a cost of ±$800.00 (± R12K).

When my 2008 Polo went in for a service it came back with a noticeable whine from the engine bay thoughtout the rev range while driving. Took it staight back and the mechanic was dumbfounded but conceeded the replacement part was at fault. I dont recall what part it was (bearing related) but it was located in and around the fan belt area as well. I am not a mechanic, sorry I can be of more help boet. Not sure where you located but if you in CPT then Barons N1 is the place to go. I have built a great relationship with the team over the last 20 years and can recommend them 100%. Ask for Rodeny, their service manager.
