Polo 6R bi-xenon install caused weird faults?

Post by ahmfa »

Hi,

This forum and the community rocks!

A year ago I bought a Polo 6R 1,2 TDi 3 door, I’m happy with the car it’s great for my needs.

I recently got an OBDeleven device for fun and discovered some interesting things. My opinion is that the bi-xenon are not coming originally with this car and maybe the previous owner installed it. It works great but since I bought the car the drivers side rear parking light does not work and there is a bulb sign on the cluster. Sometimes the error disappear and the parking lights work fine sometime the rear left does not work.

I would like to resolve the issue and have put my scan and coding below.

Could this issue be caused by bi-xenon install? Maybe fix is in the coding? I also discovered glow plug fault as well.

The following is my faults scan!

BCM coding is correct for Bixenon.

The most likely problem is that some of the two wires required for the front LED modules were not installed from the BCM to the headlights when the Bixenon headlights were retrofitted. But this is only a more than likely guess, as long as the bi-xenon headlights were actually retrofitted and were not the original equipment from the factory.

Removing and putting in screws is done by anyone... the wire and electronics stuff seems to be the hard part...

If the BCM coding is all ok then I will try my luck tinkering. I’m a newb but not afraid to explore. I had the opinion of a retrofit because of the fitment of my headlights, there are some gaps so I naturally thought previous owner changed them. Is there any other way to confirm this retrofit?

I did a factory options check based on the sticker in the boot and found the following for my polo, I used this website (http://igorweb.org/equidec/)

1AT = Electronic stabilization program (ESP)
QI6 = Service indicator 30,000 km or 2 year ( variable )
7MJ = Emission standard EU5 plus
C0D = Steel wheels 5J x 14
HK9 = Tires 175/70 R14 84T
4KF = Side windows in heat-insulating glass, from B-pillar and rear window dark tinted
1ME = Steering wheel
Q1A = Standard front seats
J1D = Battery 380 A (72 Ah)
8K1 = Separate daytime running lights
8M1 = Rear window wiper and washer system with intermittent control
8JW = Twin headlight for driving on the right (gas discharge) w/ integrated high beam
U0C = Instrument insert with tachometer clock and km/h speedometer
8RL = 6 speakers (passive)
8TC = Rear fog light for driving on the right
8WG = Cornering lamp
8AE = Radio "RCD310 MP3"
8X1 = Headlight washer system

Not sure what to make of 8JW? Does it indicate that the bi-xenon came from factory?

According to partslink, and the pr codes, this car came with bi xenon headlights from factory.

I’m super happy to hear that this is not a botched retrofit. Any ideas on those fault codes? Causes and remedies?

thanks a bunch ciclo and iichel

In that case, physically check both taillight parking light bulbs.

I believe that these bulbs have already fulfilled their purpose (278K Km) or the contacts are dirty or damaged, ...although there is a possibility that the previous owner installed LED bulbs.
