Wiring heated mirrors to come on with rear windscreen heat

Good morning!

Looking at my heated mirrors, they appear to be constantly on when the mirror adjustment toggle is in the third position with the window heat icon (makes sense). My worry is that the elements will burn out over time, especially during summer when air temperature is increased and I’m not getting the benefit from them. I’m also anally retentive and don’t like the switch to be left on the L or R position.

I’m thinking that if I wired a relay on to the button that controls the relay for the heated rear windscreen then it could be isolated by that button too, making sure they only comes on when I want them to. Has anyone done this or similar?

I had a Bora for over 19 years and a 17 year old Polo still in the family had/have their mirror heating on continuously with no problems.
