Throttle issue

Post by ylaw23 »

Hi, wonder if anyone can help? I drive a polo TSI 95 SE 2019. low mileage, had it for a year. One day, the rpm went to around 1500, usually it sits at 1000. dash board sign tells me drive in lower gears. No warning lights on dashboard. Been like that for a week then fan heating system stopped working, got that fixed at local garage and they checked rpm issue. No leaks found on the throttle body, advised me to go to vag specialist as it is an internal throttle issue. Should I take it to VW dealership service to get it checked or the specialist who claims to be as good as the dealers? :? Or has anyone had this type of issue before? :( thanks

As far as I’m aware the car may have the GPF in the exhaust system and the symptoms you are experiencing ‘high idle Rev’ ‘No warning messages’ and the ‘Drive in lower gears’ are all signs of a regen. When this happens, the above symptoms also occur, this is because the car wants the exhaust to be very hot so it can burn off the particulates matter in the filter. It shouldn’t last a week however, but it may be that you are taking it on short journeys and soo the car isn’t able to get up to the hot operating temperate it needs and so keeps trying and will keep trying until it is able to burn off a pre set amount. The fan heating system does sound like an odd problem and could have occurred at the same time coincidentally. If you take the car on a spirited drive for half an hour revving it to 3k, that should clear the problem. If not it could be something else.

Thanks for explaining, mine is a petrol and yes I drive short journeys around town (around 7 miles there and 7 miles back). Only been on long motorway journeys twice all this time I've had it. I will try method and update you.

Yes.. agree with others.

I do little driving lately with this bug going round that lasts weeks and weeks.. shopping and back home etc. I have had a few period where I am trying throttle off and the car seems to be carrying on driving as though the throttle is still down a bit.. and when I put the clutch down i notice the revs at 1500.. it only lasts for a short time and then nothing like it for weeks. I'm going to give it a run on a motorway soon with revs higher than 2000.

It's worked before...

Ps just had an MOT test and the emission figures were perfect.

I'm not sure if my car has the petrol particulate filter although it does have a section on that in my car manual. It says for regen the particulate filter symbol will not light up, but I don't see it anywhere on my dashboard. I have taken my car on the motorway for half an hour with revs touching 3000. My car is still the same
I had a service and MOT done late October by vw dealer, everything was fine except track rod in the front need changing.
Also noticed the car engine is getting noisy. Trying to not drive it much, guess it's time to get a garage to check it out.

Only issue is taking it to the dealer as it’s out of warranty you’ll have pay for them to investigate and they may say it’s normal :/ I know that cars will rev high at 1500rpm when the car thinks it needs to for example, when you just turn the car on and the engine is cold it will rev high for a few minutes until it’s warm then should go down. It could be that your temperate in the cabin is set too hot so the car is demanding higher idle speed to keep the coolant and therefore internal temperature high. Other possibility is the battery may be starting to wear out and the car is needing to rev higher to keep it charged but it’s not at the level to cause the battery warning message to appear.
When you take it on a long drive, and then it idles, if it still idles at 1500rpm I would say there is definitely something wrong because after a long drive everything that will cause it to need to Rev higher than normal will have been sorted and it should not need to compensate for anything.

Took it to a local garage that services Audi and VW and they did a drive to monitor the voltage which was at 12.6v. They said it should be at 13.5v and will fully do a check and another test drive.
