Polo 1.2 TSI Disc/pads combo

Post by Le_Combattant »

Hey fox, what's up ?

My little girl pass sucessfully today the 120 000 km check up and my wallet lightened up of 822 euros...

But my dealer calls me to advise me that my front disc (they are original) and pads are worn out and rear pads also.
For this operation, they asked to me...700 euros.

What a joke.

So I went to the dealer and ask for an estimate.
Around 555 euros of parts, including 4 brakes pads, 4 disc, and the dedicated screws.

Now I'm looking on internet, but I a little bit lost abour brands.

I heard about Brembo, TRW etc...

I'm a big fan of ATE and TRW. Ate pads on TRW discs.
There are several other good brands like Brembo, Zimmermann, bosch, ebc as well. I'm sure you'll manage to so with about half the costs the dealer proposed.

After some research, ATE seems the orginal fitted pars on Polo.
The Brand appears in the ETKA

+1 for ATE discs. From what I've heard zimmerman also have a very good anti-corrosion coating but not tried them yet myself.

I'd avoid Textar discs as even my Textar Pro+ rear discs started to show signs of corrosion within a month after fitting.

Running Ferodo. Did the front discs and pads, all Ferodo, on my 2017 1.2TSI with 288mm discs for just under 100 Euro.
I'm sure pricing is similar over in Europe.

Dealerships are complete rip-off artists.

Back in the day Audi/VW part pricing seemed to line up with aftermarket availability. They'd charge more for items that were easily available aftermarket because they could shift those off the shelf. I guess today they just charge stupid amounts for everything.

288 brakes ? What the hell.
You are the second guy I'm talking with and having 288 brakes on his Polo.

It was an option ? Mine are 256mm.

For 210 euros I have from ATE
-4 brakes discs
-4 ceramics brakes pads.

Some times VW parts are cheaper than on market, and some time you have to sell a part of your body for a stupid part made of plastic.

should be

ATE 13.0460-2820.2

or if its version with metal shims

ATE 13.0460-2894.2

ofc. there is going to be normal pad and ceramic one.
You can peek thru the wheel to see if there is a shim on caliper carrier or not.

Ceramic pads will produce less dust

I bought bosch the other day, ( version with no shims)

What is the purpose of the metal shims ?
Less friction between the pads and brake caliper ?

Mine doesn't have, but I don't know if it's possible to fit this system on mine.

The shims are for noise reduction when you reverse.

When I reverse ? Could you explaine to me how it works ?

Do you think I could install this shims even they are not fitted from the factory ?
I check my PR code, and no information about that.
