Just a tips for you who want to upgrade light switch on you Polo 6R.
X2car.de has prepared a harness with a plug that fits stock harness directly (3D printed). I purchased one and installed in our Polo…installation was a breeze

I would like to make the harness myself... but I cannot seem to find a concise detailed explanation?

All the info is in this forum (since the first creation), with an infinity of wiring adaptations in almost all the PQ25 models of the VW Group (VW, Seat, Skoda).
There is a topic dedicated especially for the VW T5.1

Take only what interests you, maybe you don't need to adapt the BCM. If you have BCM Max from the factory, you only have to manufacture the wiring for Auto lights.
Nothing can be concise or simple, there are often differences even in PQ25 vehicles that look the same.
Just commenting that I haven't manufactured these looms for a long time, although I provide specific help in this forum in the specific details to achieve the correct operation of the automatic light system, only coding and troubleshooting.
