Sunroof rattle ? Check your screw !

Post by Le_Combattant »

Hey fox,

Maybe something interesting for peoples likes me and their 6c that has some rattle coming from sunroof open or closed.

I had to replace my headliner due to water leaks and damages.

I took advantage of this removal to inspect the sunroof, which was still making noise.
It was driving me crazy.

It felt more like a wooden trawler than a car.

Headliner removal is straight forward.
Patience and calm is the key to do it right.

In 1h, it was done:

And I decided to check all the bolt that tight the sunroof frame to the car and surprise: all were loose

Here the official VW workshop manual for the torque of each bolts (3 types, 3 torque level):

I removed one by one screw and put loctite (medium blue on them) and tight them.

For the "biggest" one, "4" on the document, I did 1 turn and hafl before the torque wrench "click".

After road test, no more noise.

Quite a heavy job, you have to remove rear seats to be able to remove C pillar...

The engineering behind this car is a nightmare.

Some part broke, I will have to buy two C pillar and two side wheel trim...

Yeah, everything getting worse with current vehicles, poor quality plastics, military level encryption, ridiculous maintenance processes, exorbitant prices...
I am afraid that in the last two quarter parts of my life I am going to use the bike/bicycle more often,... or I will buy a vw-donkey as the main transport vehicle. 😄

My is only 10 years, but the plastic part that retain the metal clip sometimes broke so you need to order the new part completely...

What needs to come off for the headliner to come out? Got some rattles coming from the sunroof myself that are driving me mad! Think my rearview mirror/ rain light sensor trim is also one of the many sources.

I'm assuming ABC pillar trims, roof lights, interior motion sensor, grab handles, and sun visors?

You are right.

But to remove C pillar you have to remove first:

Back Seat
Wheel trim side panel
Trunks side panel
Lock carrière cover

I love how the price of the bikes is almost of a nice used car. New bikes... like with fox etc.
And price of tires for bikes = 1 car tire price like wtf so much less material. Scammers everywhere
