Is this sound normal?

Post by R826583 »

Hello! First time Polo owner here, and I have to say that I've been loving it so far.

One thing is that I noticed a strange-ish sound coming from the engine bay that sounds like water circulating in a pulsing manner. I'm not used to having a car that makes this sound and wanted to see if any seasoned Polo owners could confirm if it is an expected sound. I should note that the car has done around 100,000km so far, and that it has the original water pump (I've heard that the water pump can cause issues).

I cannot seem to attach a .wav file so I have uploaded it to https://whyp.it to listen to it. The link is: https://whyp.it/tracks/121292/audio-vw ... oken=XEAb2. The car was in park with the hand break engaged when this was recorded. I was sitting in the driver’s seat when recording.

I updated the recording link because the old link expired. Any ideas from anyone? :D

I have used audio recognition, but it does not return any results.

Hi, welcome.
hahaha... this is like the most difficult yet, instead of recording a video with audio in the engine compartment/bay, you record an audio and to make the diagnosis even more difficult you do it inside the car... with all my respects to you and your efforts in uploading the audio, I thank you for the post because it made me laugh for a while.

The audio sounds good, it seems to me that you are parked near a joking guy who is using a metal file at the same rate as the engine is idling.
The strange-ish sound has a good cadence, which means that something is going to end up failing soon. (soon is a relative term)

Let's hope that someone brave on the forum or with more wisdom can help you better than me.
