6R Front Radiator Plastics

Post by Jsteph »

Hi everyone.

Been using your topics for various help I’ve needed, repairing a lightly damaged, but cheaply repaired 6R 1.6TDi. No hideous buy any stretch but won’t do for me. Previous owner rolled it off the handbrake down the drive and into their second car, which creased the wing, snapped the O/S top headlight brackets, demolished the the headlight/bumper support bracket underneath the headlight, the crash bar crushed in a bit and annoyingly the whole slam panel and radiator plastic surround is broken.

Their method of repair was self tapping screws to put it back together again so I’ve been slowly undoing their wrongs. So this brings me onto the slam panel radiator surround, does anyone know how I go about replacing it? Pictured below.

For anyone who does the same, I can confirm that you don’t have to remove the radiator to do this which is what I thought. The plastic radiator surround does attach to the crash bar so make sure you take out all those bolts before you try to drop the crash bar. Then just work around and unbolt it all, pull it forward and then down to pop it off the two locators at the bottom of the radiator. Fit in reverse, but you’ll need to swap over some hardware into the new shroud most likely like bonnet stand, air intake and bonnet latch.
