Tyre Size for 14" Wheels

Post by Petrified »

Anyone running 14" wheels can you tell me which tyre size you're using please??

I've got some BBS wheels from golf mk2 (6" wide?) and wanted to find the correct tyre size on a mk3.

Also can you tell me if you've lowered it and by how much.

Thanks!!

James.

Cheers Mr. Just the info I was looking for,

:D

Gotsa find me some of those. How much did they cost?
I'll have a look around some websites now to give me an Idea.

I think I'm running on 60's or something at the moment, will have to check.

Theres quite a few sizes you can use;

165/55/14
175/50/14
185/50/14
195/45/14

Theyre all about the right size, I think the closest two are the top and bottom ones in real life (as opposed to the tyre size calc) but obviously the bottom ones are slightly more favourable in terms of grip. You might also find that 195/45/14s are cheaper than 185/50s bizarrely

My 185/50/14's were £40 a corner but i got a good deal off a mate.
But if you phone selecta tyres and enquire about some saying you have been quoted £40 each they will match it.

Nick at selecta tyres matched it for me.
Normal prices are around £50 a corner.

I would say 185-50's are the better ones. Although theres a lot more choice in 195-45's plus they are up to a tenner cheaper for the same make and series tyre !

Sounds good. Can you go lower than 40mm with the 195/45 or 185/50 ?
Not that I'm planning to but I would be nice to see what can be done.

Also would you recommend any springs/shocks combo.

Cheers.

Well with my saloon the back wheels are in the arches at 40mm (on inspection they could go lower with no scrubbing) and the fronts are still high so its gunna be 60mm on them. I would say 70mm should be ok without scrubbing using 185 / 50 (not sure about other sizes as i havent used them.

I have 185/60/14's on at the moment and the speedo is dead on,according to my RAII I havn't got it past 80 yet, well not with the RA connected.

I was quite supprised by how fast the GT can go before it starts shaking/falling apart.

I'm so used to driving with 6 gears now that I keep trying to change from 5th, luckily reverse is not in the place 6th would be on the polo. Not like the unfortunate Honda Jazz I had as a courtesy car

I've got the same wheels as Metz and I run them with 195/45/14 tyres. They do me fine, hoping to go down 70mm without too much scrubbage!
