Speedo Jumping past 40mph

Hi all,

Trying to diagnose my lad's 2005 9N's speedo issue.

Most issues im searching are for non-working or intermittent but this is more bizarre!

Dial works fine and smooth up to ~40mph, then will stick and jump (still keeping the correct speed) up to 60/70 - haven't dared take it higher

Thinking of a new gearbox speed sensor, but is there a small gear that this attaches to that needs/could be replaced also?

Any advice gladly received.

My former 9N3 only jumped from 90km to 95km when it was a very hot day.
It never stuck.
Do you have VCDS or VAGCOM?
You can do a needle swipe check.
Al 4 needles will go from min to max to test (you have to click next for the next needle to start it's check)
