POLO 6R. Test of the new dynamic turn signal on the side mirror. Video.

Image

Before installing the new Audi entry lights in the new mirror housings with dynamic turn signal I check the operation of these dynamic turn signals on the vehicle.

Video    https://www.youtube.com/embed/DtJqfhg5C ... autoplay=1

As you can see in the video there is a great improvement in the illumination compared to the original turn signal.

The housing fits correctly, but the shape of the housing on its outer side is not identical to the original.
Image
IMHO, it is barely noticeable, but it adds to the negative side of installing these mirror housings with sequential/dynamic turn signal:
- The tip of the LED light is barely noticeable. viewtopic.php?p=605337#p605337
- The shape of the lower mirror housing is not identical to the original.

The thing is that the improvement in the lighting of the turn signal compared to the original is huge (video), so I am going to give it a try and also install the Audi entry lights in them.
Only time and observations of their performance in daily traffic will tell me if it was worth installing these dynamic turn signals.

In any case, I already have the Audi entry lights installed in the original lower mirror housings in case I change my mind about these dynamic turn signals.

Installation of new Audi entry lights in mirror housings with dynamic turn signals.

No mystery, just like the other time.

-The drilling in this plastic feels the same as in the original.
-These new Audi entry lights may be a few thousandths larger than those manufactured in 2014 (10mm + 0.001).🤷‍♂️
-For the exact position of the LEDs I took as reference the images I posted for the original mirror housings.

Image

I will install them on the folding mirrors at home (done)...
Image
... to install them along with the rest of the LC project in the middle of nowhere when the temperatures drop from 40ºC 🥵 to about 25-30ºC. 🌴🥤😊

They are not perfect, but at least they seem that way. :)

The interior connections (T28) for the end of the project... today I was not inspired to remove the glove box and make the connections properly.
As I have already become accustomed to the large space to work in the Golf, etc. I did not remember that in the Polo the space is quite a bit smaller... I must return my mind to the pixie mentality.😄

Remembering past retrofits to make connections/splices of the new 26/27/28 wires on the T28 door connector for the Lane Change project.

In the following image I took from this thread of my 6R LHD I indicate where I need to splice the new wires, 26 black (Earth), 27 red/black (positive, BCM diagnosis), 28 brown/black (negative, BCM control).
Image

I had the bright idea of installing the PDC 8K front mini speaker in the glove box  viewtopic.php?p=539857#p539857 (the 6R never had a factory PDC 8K, nor a physical place for this mini speaker), ... and the not so bright idea of grabbing the mini speaker wiring to the footwell lights wiring with the zip clamp in the following image.
Image
I'm still wondering or trying to imagine how I was able to take this shot, in that area there is barely room for a smartphone. 🤔

In order to access these wires to make the splices accurately with the tools I have, I am forced to remove the glove box. I could make the splices in more visible sections, but this area is immensely populated with harnesses from many other retrofits that are too well attached to the original harnesses.🤷‍♂️

---

On the other hand, I am thinking of reinstalling the PDC 8K 7E0 (PQ) control unit to carry out some checks once I have installed the 5Q0 radars.
Image

Image

Image

I replaced the 7E0 unit with a 1K8 unit for the automatic activation of the front parking sensors, but since I have the RNS510 instead of the Discover Media, it is not crucial to have the 1K8 unit installed at the moment.

Note:
- If you have arrived here from youtube and want to know more about this installation of Audi entry lights you can start reading from here --> viewtopic.php?p=605150#p605150

Well, I found some free time to remove the glove box, reduce my human dimensions 😅, and make the connections at T28 before installing the 5Q0 radars for the Lane Change Assistant.

-ve BSD WL to the Earth wire which ends in a 2.5mm2 thick wire that I installed for my Ambient lights.
+ve BSD WL I run it to the trunk compartment to connect it later to the radar wiring.

Audi entry lights.

Video    https://www.youtube.com/embed/IcllPwDWA ... autoplay=1

- The photos and the video have not been edited or modified to have a true idea of the result. Video taken with the 'smart'phone, not with a 500 million dollar camera.🤭 I'm just enthusiastic about my cars, not about video cameras, tattoos, ... or other very respectable circumstances for profit.
Car light videos are the hardest to shoot, even with the best cameras. If I shot the video in a darker place so that the entry light could be seen better, the video would have a lower resolution and you would barely see anything, just a stupid very bright light that would not reflect reality.
- The place chosen to make the video was chosen intentionally, I suppose that in the future I will take a video in a more... nice place.😁
- The darker it is, the brighter the light. These Audi entry lights are a 'lovely' little luxury detail, the lighting is just right, not to turn your 6R into a Christmas tree, we already have enough with the Automatic lights.😎
- Finally, something very important, due to install these Audi entry lights in the exterior mirrors, no type of aerodynamic noise is generated at any speed (90/120/350/etc... to infinity and beyond).

Tips.
-If you don't have Automatic lights, this small and relatively cheap retrofit, will make accessing your 6R in dark places more pleasant.
-If you want puddle lights -more powerful than entry lights- on your 6R's exterior mirrors search on youtube for a good video tutorial. There are two good videos, not mine. Use the same connections as here.
-If you want puddle lights on the doors, use the forum search engine, a long time ago I posted some diagrams for both the Polo 6R and the Golf mk7.5. In this case you should take the positive from the door contact switches (F), the only difficulty lies in knowing which is the wire position of the door contact switch in the lock connectors on each door.
-When purchasing non-original parts that require modifications or that will disappear from sale over time, buy double the amount. The first modification on the part will be the reference, the second will be the correction.

The white light will guide your way. 🧙‍♂️😄

POLO 6R. Reinstalled 7E0 PDC 8K control unit.

Image

As I mentioned in a previous post, some time ago I installed a 5Q0 (1K8) PDC 8K control unit for automatic activation of the front parking sensors, but now I want to do some tests/checks with the 7E0 PDC 8K control unit once I install the 5Q0 radars for the lane change project.

To remove/install the PDC control unit it is necessary to remove it together with the bracket. According to erWin the bracket clips break and a new bracket must be installed.
Image

Since I am not a millionaire and above all because I do not feel like waiting for a possible order of the part, I manage to remove the bracket without breaking the clips, ... virtue, patience and a bit of luck to do it, just that, any possible explanation of how to do it would be useless. 😊

It works like a charm, just like it did before.🧙‍♂️

Well, I will soon install the LC radars, but this week I have an appointment with the annual MOT inspection (ITV here), so I will install the LC radars after the MOT.

POLO 6R. MOT (ITV), Monday, August 19, 2024.

I made an appointment online and it was scheduled for today at 9:00.
Took 15 minutes. MOT passed successfully. FAVORABLE (in case you are English and have to do the inspection here).

In perfect working order, Ready2SideAssist...🏎😅

---

I took some more pictures of the Entry lights with more outside light but from the shadow side so you can get a real idea of their lighting power.

OFF
Image

ON. Folded mirrors. This is how I will usually see them.
Image

ON. Mirrors unfolded.
Image

On the other side (Driver, 6R LHD), with good outside light, they are barely noticeable.

I love them, a luxury detail.💎

POLO 6R. Side/exterior mirror caps/cover/housing painted in 'metallic black'.

I forgot to show you this mirror housing.🤭
Image

Image

I have a couple of set of these mirror housings in gloss black, which are what I've had installed these past few years, but a couple of years ago I ordered new ones and received them with the metallic color instead of gloss.😁 I didn't return them, there was something in them that seemed good to me... 🤔
Now I find them nicer, which is why I've installed them on my new exterior mirror set/assembly. Just that.🤷‍♂️

---

Today I installed the lane change radars (Hallelujah!😂), as soon as possible I will show you the installation.

This cut should have been done when building the 'prototypes' of structural supports. It is evident that I am someone who is too optimistic.😅
The 'Cut' at the end of this post.

Image
Remember that I faithfully copied the structural shape (angles) of the Golf 7.5 radar brackets. It is exactly as seen in the image above.🤷‍♂️

The Cut.

The installation of the rear bumper is as indicated by erWin, first it is fitted into the tabs on the upper central part. Now the lower part of the bumper must be 'slightly' flexed in the area where the radar brackets are located in order to overcome them and to be able to insert/tighten the bolts and the plastic clip that hold the bumper in position. Radars fit perfectly into the spaces reserved for them...😂
The result is almost perfect 🤭, or at least it is what I intended. I'll see what the dynamic calibrations say once I connect the radar wiring (soon).

Today I am preparing to enjoy a wonderful day.

Have a great weekend everyone without exception!

POLO 6R. Lane Change project. How to connect the radar wiring without cutting the original wiring/harness.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the lane change project would use the original wires already available for the parking distance control unit, which have exactly the same signals as we need for the radars (diagrams here).
I use the same technique that I used many years ago and that is currently commonly used for this type of retrofitting by some companies that sell wiring looms, this way installing the wiring in the vehicle is 'Easier'.

Image

Image
Warning: It takes good tools and skills to do it correctly. You need to be very precise to manually crimp two 0.5mm2 wires onto a 0.5mm2 MQS terminal and then insert it properly into the connector, it's not easy.
I suggest using another type of larger terminals/connectors if you don't have the tools or skills to do it with MQS terminals... or make Y-splices in the original wiring.

Today I should have connected the radars and started with the diagnostics, but the masters of the universe have decided that my wife needed the 6R for her important activities, so I did not have the 6R available for my irrelevant activities. I certainly never contradict the decisions of the masters of the universe, I would not like to be punished all my life for unimportant issues.😁

I suppose that the masters of the universe will give me preference for my activities tomorrow Sunday, ...although having permission to do something does not necessarily mean doing it no matter how much you want it, sometimes it is necessary to make it clear who really has the control.😄

---

I have already connected the wires of the BSD warning lights to the radar wiring. Since connecting a wire is very simple, I just took a couple of images of the process for the record.🤷‍♂️

Not to be taken into account. Still many things to test/check..., even in this autoscan there are already tests in progress with circumstances that may not be definitive.
In the following posts I will report my diagnostics/tests/checks/calibrations/updates/codings/etc.

E.g.: When activating the 'analysis' of the dynamic calibration in the adaptations, the measurement values show the progress/percentage/km on the radars and other data.
Well, as you already know, my 5Q0 radars come from our Golf 7.5 and according to the measurement values they were installed in our Golf for 36,000km (OK)... which is the reading shown by the Master radar in the 6R... (the rest of the data is all OK, 100%). Maybe I'm wrong but my guess is that 'these' 5Q0 radars are in calibration mode permanently.🤷‍♂️
As expected, when transferring new data sets the Master radar calibration starts from 0km, the Slave radar is at 100% in the next reading after a few kms (<5km).

That's all for now.

Before posting the wonderful final results of my Lane Change project for which I still have some final checks to do (testing during this week since I installed the radars), I would like to comment that when I did the tests with the mini test bench and radars for the '5v' BSD warning lights I mentioned in an image that the L7808CV voltage regulator is within tolerances, which is correct with a standard power supply. I tested the maximums (15.8v) and minimums (4.5v) and everything was within tolerances.
viewtopic.php?p=605083#p605083

However, in a vehicle the voltage variations are very pronounced when we first turn the key in the ignition switch, which causes the voltage regulator L7808CV to be out of tolerance and causes the '5v' BSD warning lights to malfunction. It is solved by being less optimistic 🤭 and replacing the L7808CV for the L7806CV, thus making the '5v' BSD warning lights work wonderfully in any condition.

It was something expected and that I wanted to test, that's why, among other reasons, I installed the green connectors 👌 in the mirror wiring for the voltage regulators.

In action. Video capture (smartphone).

In real life the BSD warning light is clearly visible with a deep red colour and perfectly sharp, much better than the amber ones.
On these summer days the sun shines very brightly here and it is "very difficult" to get a good picture of the operation of an LED light. Either it produces a flickering effect or the colors are not real.
