Drivers side cv boot

Post by TommyPolo »

Hello, just got an mot advisory on perished outer cv boot, drivers side. I want to get it done now, before winter as it looks like it might split any moment.

Just wondering if the shaft needs to come out or if it can stay on the car? Also should I replace the hubnut and circlip?

I guessing the process is as follows…..

1. Wheel on ground, slacken hubnut and wheel nuts
2. Jack up, remove wheel and hubnut
3. Release lower ball joint and pull hub off the splines
4. Cut off boot
5. Use soft faced mallet to knock joint off shaft
6. Remove old circlip
7. Fit new boot to shaft
8. Clean and re grease cv joint and fit to shaft
9. Clip ends of new boot
10. Fit splines into hub and bolt lower ball joint
11. Fit wheel and lower car
12. Tighten hubnut….bloody tight?
13. Tighten wheel nuts

Any tips/ advice would be good, last one I did would be on my mini in about 1997!!!

Thanks
