Polo 1.2 TDI Egr Fault

Post by Dylbo1234 »

Recently I broke down after the engine management light come on , I called out the AA and they plugged it in and described I had an egr fault , at this point the car wouldn’t start. (Error code - P0405)

The AA Mechanic said he unplugged the egr so then it started and I could drive it home , I then got a mobile mechanic to come and map out the egr , after mapping out and the egr plugged back in the car starts but after revving when the revs go down stalls again , I left the car as the mobile mechanic was due to come back to fix , I tried the car the next day started but not stalling anymore after revving

This time the issue is there is a very noticeable power loss on the acceleration going from 0-1.5 revs it’s like a second or two to get over 1.5 revs which obviously on a hill is then causing me to stall

Any help or ideas what could be wrong no error codes are showing as of now

the egr valve mechanism is mechanically broken. no software fix is going to fix that. probably jammed open. best fix is to replace the egr valve/cooler regardless of the sw fix.

Is replacing it fairly easy to do by yourself ?

not really. you'll need to either take out the right hand side drive shaft or the particle filter.
