Blower works, no air coming out of vents.

Post by Oneilly »

Hi Guys,

I recently had a Evaporator replaced under warranty, after the work was done I haven't driven the car much.

Today my son told me the fan was making a lot of noice as you might expect but the noice was centered around the passenger foot well and no air was coming out of the air grills.

I checked the filter that was fine, it seems to me like a hose might be disconnected somwhere.

Does this sound likley, i can take it back to the garage but if theres an easy fix to do myself?

Thank you for looking

I'm guessing that this car has manual AC - has it?

From memory, I think that the footwell air outlets come direct from the "air box" so no extra hoses involved, it could be a flap motor failure, or a flap ended up being jammed after re-fitting, or a flap motor not refitted correctly, or a flap motor not plugged back in after the evaporator replacement.

Ie many possibilities, now, if you had access to a fully compliant scan tool, you could use that to find out if faults were being logged and also to activate all the air flap motors and check their positional feedback.

I've never had a VW Group car that didn't have auto AC so I can't say if any of the controls are just bowden cables or rods - either of which could also have been left disconnected after this work.

Thank you for replying.

Yes its has manual AC, i think i'll take in back to VW to sort it, suspect it's something they did or didn't do when replacing the evaporator.

Even if they claim that not to be the case, i think it will be covered by the 2 warranty.
