Electrical issue including dead OBD port

Hi,
My son has a 2017 1.0 60hp 3 cylinder polo and up until Saturday its been great. On Saturday he was driving and the rings around the heater controls (NON climate, just standard ac) flickered and went off, the air con button stopped working and the air recirculation button stopped working, the heater control the internal fan speed all work.. Also at the same time there is now a stop start error message and when starting the car the radiator fan instantly switches onto warp speed ! The car otherwise drives perfectly and despite the radiator fan being on flat out the car reaches temp and drives fine.
Today i dropped it off with a friend who's an experienced car guy went to plug into the OBD port and the port is dead...

I realise it could be many things but I just wondered if these symptoms rang alarm bells with anyone? (he's checked the fuses and so far no blown fuses)
