Engine Ticking noise 1.4 2009 9n3
I have had a ticking engine coming from the drivers side end of the engine, initially thought that it could be the hydraulic Tappets but I have replaced all 16 of these with no change in the noise. Have been told that there might be a hole in the exhaust but that was said to be closer to the catalytic converter. Any help would be brilliant TIA.

What is the odometer reading and does it have a full service history for oil changes? What oil are you using? When was the cambelt, rollers and water pump last changed? These engines are a bit noisy. There should be a distinct difference in sound between an exhaust blowing vs mechanical wear. A screwdriver or stethoscope (being very careful of moving parts) should help pinpoint it. I did read somewhere about that end of the engine being at the end of the oil circulation and so receiving less pressure resulting in the tapping sound. Not sure if that is true. 'They all do it' is often heard. Is the noise noticeable at engine speeds approaching 2000 rpm and over when driving? As long as it drives OK, and there are no ODB codes you are probably OK.
