Forum Guidance Please

Post by JohnEds »

I'd be very grateful if somebody could throw some light on two things:

How do I search for a term such as 'oil consumption' or 'oil burning'? The forum search ignores 'oil' because it's too short a word.

Also, why is 6r/6c in the mark 9 category. My daughters polo is 6r - but is a mark 5?

Thanks.

In my experience, the search function isn't great. i use google to search the forum.

like this: "oil consumption:" site:uk-polos.net

https://www.google.com/search?q=%22oil+ ... e&ie=UTF-8

The 6R or 6C is really just that this series of Polo started like as 6R and it was given a face lift in late 2014 and was then known in some circles as 6C due to many revised areas of the car having that as the first group of identifying part numbers.

6R and 6C Polos from the outside, look very similar, but in many areas like engines and electronics package they are very different.

Edit:- I echo the comments concerning "search" function, most forums search functions are the same, ie either not very helpful or just far to fussy to be of use.

Google sadly is the way forward - or maybe not so sadly, plus its added AI "goodness" can typically give you all you need or want.

So what is the official uk-polos rules on mark numbering?
Officially, or rather elsewhere, the 6R/6C is the mk5. Is uk-polos numering according to facelift and model designation? It is often the vehicle is physically (body-wise/platform) the same, but VW changes the code. The shell is what most would number them on. Is uk-polos numbering by code/designation instead?

Here it appears that every facelift version gets a new ‘mk’ , your 6R is a MK8 and the face lift a 6C is a MK9 .
As said the is because sometimes although visually simular the face lifted version has a completely different electrical structure in terms of hardware and software ie a updated version.
