Strange hazard light behaviour

Post by ashtons99 »

If I close the door on exiting but don’t lock it when I return and open the door the hazard lights flash, they continue to until I either blip the unlock button or turn the ignition on.
This seems to happen after about 15 minutes of leaving the car unlocked. It doesn’t happen at 5 or 10 minutes but less than 20 mins.

It is almost as if there is some sort passive arming but of what and why I don’t know.

Any suggestions or how I can turn it off. Nothing comes up on OBDII

Did you ever find a resolution to this? My Polo is doing exactly the same thing.

TIA.

That flashing hazard lights is a congratulatory message for leaving the car doors closed -without locked- and the car not being stolen.
If after-between 15 to 20 minutes the car hasn't been stolen, it's a reasonable amount of time to receive this lovely reward, not before.

Congratulations!🎉🥂

I am totally sure that no one will be able to refute my comment without first checking such behavior of the hazard lights.😁

Is it a POLO '6C'?

Being a 1.0 TSI, it's a 6C.

I'm guessing there might be some related information in the owner's manual, although that's a very optimistic guess.
Perhaps in the sections about the (low) battery, immobilizer, anti-theft alarm, central locking, or something similar...

It's very strange behavior.

Thanks for the model info, it’s definitely a fault and not a design feature, I’ve got an auto electrician lined up if I don’t get a resolution in here.

Wait a reasonable amount of time (a couple of days or three), let's hope there is someone with a 6C who tests it and wants to participate to refute my comment.
Otherwise, as you say, someone will have to take a look at the electrical installation.👍

The solution to this was a body control module a few software versions out of date, now updated to the latest software and the problem has gone away, thanks for your inputs.

Great! 8)
Hmm... relatively predictable solution for a 6C.
Thank you for letting us know how to fix it.👌
