New more powerful wireless charger 15W OEM.

Previously, I had retrofitted 5w OEM wireless charger. Not that it was bad, but awfully slow at charging.
viewtopic.php?p=606234#p606234

New updated OEM wireless chargers have arrived with different ratings maximum upto 40W. With arrival of new platforms such as MQBevo, MQB2020, MLB, MEB etc.. VW has correspondingly changed the wireless chargers for these new platforms, ranging from 15W to 40W.
Luckily, few of these updated wireless chargers(15W) still work on MQB platform eg; 5CG 980 611 A and 6VA 035 502. Both of these have air vents with cooling fan, directly controlled by 5F unit, but without mobile signal booster. These are direct swap for 3CG 980 611 unit with same black connector and wiring scheme.
Few newer wireless chargers eg; 3P0 035 502(15w), 57T 980 611(40w), etc are controlled by CAN via GW. These may still work with MQB, but there won't be wireless charging flash message or icon on MIB.

I bought the cheaper chinese 15W 5CG 980 611A from AliExpress. https://a.aliexpress.com/_c4l6fJZb

The more expensive EU version 15W 6VA 035 502, is hard to find used as new is very expensive.
The charging mat for these 15W wireless chargers with active cooling are also different with precut holes in mat for air circulation via vents in charger. The stock mat can also be modified by making holes though. Without corresponding holes in mat, charging doesn't work properly and throws error message on MIB.
I couldn't find the RHD T-roc charging mat for new 15w wireless charger. But I could find LHD T-roc charging mat with precut holes for chinese domestic market. The difference is not noticible and fits ok in RHD storage compartment with little modification.

This error appears when using stock mat without holes with new charger.

To summarise,
- The New 15W wireless charger charges phone significantly faster( 2-3 times) than old 5W charger. During my tests, with 1hr of drive, my OnePlus 12 with 5400mA battery, goes consistently from 20% to 75% charge. So approximately 1% increment every minute with Bluetooth connected and without Android auto. With AA also connected, it's slightly slower to charge. With previous 5W charger, it was very very slow, with 1r drive, charge used to bump from 20% to 40% max.
- The cooling fan starts working when charging starts and goes off when charging stops. It's not loud, barely audible. I am not sure if the cooling fan helps, phone does get moderately warm similar to 5W charger without fan.
- As I said, charging mat is designed slightly different with precut holes for new 15w charger. The air circulation holes are must for proper charging. I tried stock mat without holes with new charger. I constantly got error message on MIB.
I am very much satisfied with the new 15W wireless charger, and I highly recommend it.πŸ‘

PS: If anyone noticed in above pictures, there is another related upgrade done. A >C πŸ”… details will be on another dedicated post.

Another tiny upgrade: New switch for electric tail in driver door.😁
Even though just for asthetic purposes, the switch now accurately describes it's function.πŸ˜‰
This switch comes from VW Phideon for chinese market. PN: 3ED 959 835.

Thanks again for such detailed information about these improvements. Great job!πŸ‘
It's a shame there isn't one of these new chargers for standard MQB with a mobile signal amplifier, well, I'm not an addicted consumer of mobile phone applications, so I'll continue to make do with my current wireless charger.πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜₯😁

I love the new button for opening and closing the tailgate. Also, the new USB-C ports. πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜Ž
